There has been lots of death in the hammer throw world.
Most recently with Yuriy Sedykh, and today with the news of Jüri Tamm hours ago.
To honor them and any other athletics hero you may be fond of, I’d like to share a traditional zen death poem, or ‘jisei’.
Breathing in, breathing out,
Moving forward, moving back,
Living, dying, coming, going —
Like two arrows meeting in flight,
In the midst of nothingness
Is the road that goes directly
to my true home.
