Listen to the Hammer

*Listen*

After all these years of sharing about hammer connection, Tao of hammer, etc, etc

Perhaps the “simplest” way for you to find this feeling for yourself,

is to *listen*.

Listening in practice.

Listening *takes* practice.

How:

As soon as you cross the threshold of the circle,

allow yourself to hear all the sounds in nature that surrounds you.

The key is to not attempt to identify any sound you hear.

Wait for the sound the hammer makes as it begins its orbit.

Hear it

continue hearing it.

But don’t attach to it.

When you get more comfortable, you will suddenly realize that the throw is not something that you are doing,

But something that is happening.

Not trying, nor trying to not try.

Simply aware.

Do this over time without anxiety over the future, or the progress and results you feel you may or may not be accomplishing (easier said than done).

Choose to be content in simply being aware.

Similarly, when throwing effectively, one will not attempt to identify, change, judge their physical body in space.

When done effectively, you are effectively in a meditative state.

Why I like this concept:

It removes most language, interpretation, conditioning, etc from not only a coach, but also YOU.

It does this by anchoring you in the present.

You cannot listen with intent AND think about the angle of your right foot as it enters single support phase… so on and so forth.

If you listen carefully, you will hear the Truth.
