Who Watches the Watcher

Who watches the watcher?

There’s an interesting thought that I’ve been playing with lately.

The idea that perhaps the ego actually does not exist at all.

*stay with me*

In short, I’m considering whether what we consider the ego, is in fact just another illusion.

But if the ego is an illusion, who/what is watching what we *think* is the ego?

You’re the one that watches your ego. But who, or *what*, are you?

So, if we choose to believe the ego doesn’t exist, then it stands to reason that there is nothing to get rid of, or “watch.”

What we think is the one that watches (the self or YOU) and keeps the ego “in check”, is in fact another thought.

And if Self is another thought, then it’s another illusion.

“Wait a minute.. what?!”

So if that’s the case and you’ve stayed with me this far, we must submit to the realization that perhaps the mind cannot be *controlled*. What we think we’re doing as a form of control is really just another part of the matrix (so to speak).

Perhaps the mind must only be experienced.

Maybe our ego is simply:

experience + our judgment of that experience.

As is my prime interest in all of this; how does this all apply to sport performance?

We’d all be more effective athletes if we were able to train, compete, and live our experiences as they come (and go).

Unobstructed.

Un-judged.

Un-grasped.

These are the athletes that are most dangerous. Because no matter what external circumstances get thrown their way, that athlete will remain unbothered.
